General News - Status Update - August, 2020 Edition

The following is a news item from Captain Gary Alexander.

It has been nearly nine months since I last sent one of these out. I think that I should get back in the habit of doing it. Normally, I send these out on the first of the month (give or take a few days) to give an overview of everything that happened in the month before and of what our goals are for the upcoming month.

Crew

We neither gained nor lost any players this month and stayed steady at 7 players.

Website

Our former XO created a Wiki for us while I just try to become competent at Nova! I'm sure there is always more to come on these things. If you have any thoughts or want to assist, let us know!

Sim

In July, we had 7 posts, but so far we only have 1 this month. I know that there a lot in the hopper but we need people to hit their tags. Please get to them ASAP, so we can keep things moving.

Mission Recap

Horizon is now officially lost in the Pinwheel Galaxy and is trying to determine how to handle its fate. Horizon got to a planet that had a buoy nearby. While Talia was working on trying to decipher the language, Gary sent an away team down to the planet. The away team found that all of the inhabitants seemed to have disappeared. However, more careful inspection showed that the inhabitants were more likely eaten by large purple worm types of creatures.

Gary ordered the away team back. However, as they were coming back another ship attached to the Horizon. The away team had its own issues as they were pursued by the large purple worm that just barely missed eating some of them and tried eating the shuttle but failed due to the quick actions of the Chief Helm Officer, Alexandra.

The ship contained husband and wife insectoid/monkey-like creatures called Fornen and Kense. Fornen and Kense described how they thought that Horizon was salvage. They also explained that this area of the galaxy had three different factions that seemed to be in control: The Consortium, Vanaja, and Sarota. The Consortium is similar to the Federation and is made of many species. However, they pretend to act like they're very concerned about the health and well-being of their citizens and have expansionist behavior, according to Fornen. Vanaja deals in money, and Sarota that manages all natural resources in the region. The borders between the three seem to vary nearly daily as they compete for territory and allies.

Fornen suggested that the Horizon could find more information and trade at Sarota Prime in the main city of Floria, which is where we are now. Three away teams have been dispatched to the planet.

Objectives

Find information regarding the three competing powers and determine the safest place for Horizon to transfer.

Player of the Month

This month our player of the month is our newest who writes for Chadrick McNeir, who will eventually become the new XO. Our Assistant Chief Science Officer is quite amusing. We look forward to seeing out this awkward situation develops for the Captain, XO and Serenity.

Ideas

If anyone has any ideas for character development or even some subplots, share them with us. I know that my door is always open. Any questions, comments, or issues, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

That’s it for this month’s Status Update!
