Welcome to the USS Horizon!

What do you get when you cross Firefly with Star Trek? You get the USS Horizon! Horizon is the ship that was briefly mentioned as lost in "A Piece of the Action," in the Original Series of Star Trek. Horizon was lost in 2168 shortly after departing Sigma Iotia II but not destroyed as Kirk assumed. Horizon was transported to another galaxy (far, far away - OK, there's no Star Wars in this game).

Horizon starts in a time when the United Federation of Planets is very new, just after the Earth-Romulan War. This is a time of optimism and exploration. However, when it is lost, Horizon is damaged and looking for resources and allies. The Captain, Gary Alexander, has privately given up on any chance of returning home but for the sake of the morale of the crew, continues to assert that they are searching for a way back.

We are currently seeking:

* Chief Medical Officer

Effective 11 June 2020, the USS Horizon is rated 3-3-3, based on the scale provided by RPGRating.com.

General News - Status Update - September, 2020 Edition

The following is a news item from Captain Gary Alexander.

Normally, I send these reports out on the first of the month (give or take a few days) to give an overview of everything that happened in the month before and of what our goals are for the upcoming month.

Crew

We neither gained nor lost any players this month and stayed steady at 7 players.

Website

Our former XO created a Wiki for us while I just try to become competent at Nova! I'm sure there is always more to come on these things. If you have any thoughts or want to assist, let us know!

Sim

In August, we only had 4 posts, down from 7 in July. So far we only have 1 this month. I know that there a lot in the hopper but we need people to hit their tags. Please get to them ASAP, so we can keep things moving.

Mission Recap

Horizon is now officially lost in the Pinwheel Galaxy and is trying to determine how to handle its fate. Horizon got to a planet that had a buoy nearby. While Talia was working on trying to decipher the language, Gary sent an away team down to the planet. The away team found that all of the inhabitants seemed to have disappeared. However, more careful inspection showed that the inhabitants were more likely eaten by large purple worm types of creatures.

Gary ordered the away team back. However, as they were coming back another ship attached to the Horizon. The away team had its own issues as they were pursued by the large purple worm that just barely missed eating some of them and tried eating the shuttle but failed due to the quick actions of the Chief Helm Officer, Alexandra.

The ship contained husband and wife insectoid/monkey-like creatures called Fornen and Kense. Fornen and Kense described how they thought that Horizon was salvage. They also explained that this area of the galaxy had three different factions that seemed to be in control: The Consortium, Vanaja, and Sarota. The Consortium is similar to the Federation and is made of many species. However, they pretend to act like they're very concerned about the health and well-being of their citizens and have expansionist behavior, according to Fornen. Vanaja deals in money, and Sarota that manages all natural resources in the region. The borders between the three seem to vary nearly daily as they compete for territory and allies.

Fornen suggested that the Horizon could find more information and trade at Sarota Prime in the main city of Floria, which is where we are now. Three away teams have been dispatched to the planet.

One team has not reported. Gary's team has just traded for something called a universal translator and Chester's team has discovered an "old West" saloon. Everyone's exploration has just been interrupted by an explosion.

Objectives

Find information regarding the three competing powers and determine the safest place for Horizon to transfer.

Player of the Month

This month our player of the month is our Chief Medical Officer Audrey Chester. Torturing our characters in sickbay is her forte, whether telling someone a joke that a hand wound is fatal or making another one handed crew member assist in medical procedures. We look forward to seeing more out of our doctor.

Ideas

If anyone has any ideas for character development or even some subplots, share them with us. I know that my door is always open. Any questions, comments, or issues, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

That’s it for this month’s Status Update!

It has been nearly nine months since I last sent one of these out. I think that I should get back in the habit of doing it. In September, we only had 4 posts, compared to 8 last month but we have several mass posts in progress, so I am not yet concerned. I am certain once we know where we are and have a Chiefs meeting, there will be lots of discussion in front of the Captain and behind the Captain's back.

Mission Recap

Horizon has just been gripped by an anomaly and is about to get lost in the Pinwheel Galaxy.

Objectives

Determine where we are and make decisions as to how to proceed.

August was a very good month. We had eight posts and we're well on our way to getting lost. Finally, I feel like we have the right crew put together. The sim officially is one year old in four days but this is the most consistent it has been since opening.

Mission Recap

Horizon is about to get lost after having shuttled up from Sigma Iota II. The infamous book has been left behind by our XO.

Objectives

Get lost.

Player of the Month

This month our player of the month is Rose, who writes for Kat and Talia. So far, we have not seen anything from Talia but KAT has been everywhere. The Captain's right hand woman, has made her presence felt and added so much to the sim. Congratulations, Rose!
