Personality & Traits
General Overview | Serenity grew up in a mixed-species family grouping and as a result, became comfortable with the cacophony that results whenever telepaths live in the vicinity of non-telepaths. She's learned to reduce it all to a background hum and when she concentrates, can eliminate it all entirely. And that's pretty much her goal - keep all those stray thoughts out of her head. On duty and when its needed, she will use her gifts to aid communication and has been called upon to help out when the universal translator isn't up to the job. - Comfortable in groups. Having grown up on the Xanadu in a family with one father and five mothers, Serenity has no problems living in close confines and has learned how to find privacy when its needed. - Curious/explorer. The family wanted to see everything that was out there. An impossible goal but the adventures they had in the pursuit of that goal left its mark on her and has made her equally curious. She wants to see what hasn't been seen as yet. - Self Reliant/Independent - Sociable, easy-going, basically honest - Not a fan of Klingons. While she left her home world when she was young, she's heard the stories from her mother. She has little respect for a culture that thrives on violence - Slow to anger. She doesn't mouth off but will instead think a thing through before speaking up. Gets even - like with the rainbow toenail thing (which she ultimately decided was cool), she figured out a way to dye her sister's skin blue. Stayed that way for a month too. Good times. |

Strengths, Weaknesses, and Quirks | Strengths: - Intelligent and resourceful, used to working without a safety net - Fast on her feet owing to a background in dance. She doesn't enjoy fighting but knows how to protect her self and adopted a mixed martial arts fighting style combined with whatever is close at hand - Adept at language (uses her telepathy to aid in understanding and to gauge the response of others) - Honest and straight-forward - Good sense of humor/fun ... very comfortable in a group. Doesn't know so much about men having grown up on a predominantly female ship - Smart, catches on quick, intuitive - Is something of an amateur engineer having grown up on a civilian freighter. She along with her sisters and mothers were responsible for the maintenance and repair of their vessel. Has spent time studying the Horizon's systems, mostly for something to do. Weaknesses: - Telepathic which means that she has to work at shutting others out sometimes. - Holds back sometimes - especially when she's angry. Would rather think it through that mouth off. So there's sometimes this delay between the event and her response. - Smart - so she catches on to more, sometimes, than she's supposed to; doesn't feel the need to be the star or take the credit. She works people in that respect. That's sometimes good, sometimes not. - Doesn't like to sleep alone but that comes from having so many siblings so close in age. They all tended to sleep piled together when they were young. So while she likes having room and not having to worry about rainbow toe nails or whipped cream in her hair, she also misses them all being so close. Quirks: - |

Ambitions | See what's out there, what else?
Hobbies, Interests, Likes, and Dislikes | LIKES: The scent of flowers growing in a field, the feel of a cool breeze, food she doesn't have to cook (she's terrible), laughter among friends, sitting on a patio deck somewhere, wrapped in a blanket, coffee in hand, watching the sun come up DISLIKES: Food that moves under its own power, bureaucracy, waking up with rainbow toenails (don't ask - okay you can ask ....), liars in general Hobbies: - Reading - Having been home-schooled, Serenity has long been a reader. Their ship had a library (of sorts), worn, dog-eared books that they traded with other vessels. She discovered a facility with languages as she started trying to read books in other languages. Her favorites are mysteries. - Spending time with friends - she's very sociable and easy going. Prefers to be in a group though she is comfortable on her own. - Drawing - she likes to draw and brought a supply of sketchbooks with her. On the Xandu, the kids spent many hours working on elaborate murals. She wishes that Starfleet weren't so rigid about such things because she'd like to draw one on one of the walls in her room - Dancing - Several of the mothers had taken early dance lessons to one degree or another and as a result, all the girls learned to dance. Serenity loved it and took formal lessons once they were land-locked on Earth. She still dances but now, mostly for her own enjoyment - Basketball - it was the family's favorite activity and she spent many happy hours racing around the cargo bay. She especially loved 'house rules' where Jubilation would introduce odd rules to accommodate the girl's size (like playing on the shoulders of the adults) |

Languages Known | Ramatisan, Federation Standard, Deltan, Risan, Klingon and some Argelian
Medical profile | Telepathic - Does not require contact. If she'd remained on the home world, she would have been trained for a chorus. Overall, in good physical condition. Slight hearing loss on the left side that is not significant enough for medical intervention. Early medical records start at the age of 14. When first presented, subject was dehydrated and showed signs of recent physical abuse that was presumed to be a one-time event.
Defining Quotes and/or Character Beliefs | Villains who wear black hats are easy to spot. Villains who twirl their mustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged. ~~ Captain Jean Luc Picard The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls. ~~ Pablo Picasso A man who has been in another world does not come back unchanged. One can't put the difference into words. When the man is a friend, it may become painful; the old footing is not easy to recover. ~~ C.S. Lewis |
Personal History | Grew up on board a converted, aging freighter known as the USS Xanadu. The ship was home to a human, Jubilation Hayes, who sailed off into deep space with the first of his five wives, Seranna. They survived on luck and odd jobs and over time, four other women joined the family. To Serenity, it was just how things were. The walls of the ship were covered in murals, there were impromptu games in one of the cargo holds, and hide and seek was pretty much never played since she could find anyone, anytime, anywhere. The family was loving and supportive of each other; everyone had a job to do and an area of expertise. What they learned, they put to good use -- foraging for food in the wilderness of some planet, mapping out routes, learning to communicate with other races. SHe loved her childhood. They all did. And then came Ayelia, a full Deltan, who joined the family when Serenity was about 14. She was a good woman, kind-hearted and loving, and no one really understood what could happen when she and Jubilation partnered. A loving, exuberant father who always had time for his children, began to change - becoming paranoid and prone to violent rages. After a particularly violent outburst where Serenity and Aerimae were badly injured, the mothers made the decision to return to earth to find care for Jubilation. The ship, nearing the end of its lifespan, was sold for salvage and Serenity found himself landlocked for the first time in her life. And while there were some benefits, she hated it and wanted, more than anything, to return to space. She was among the first to enroll at the newly formed Starfleet Academy. |
