Personal History | Fiona Murphy is the eldest child and only daughter of Dylan and Enya Murphy. She was born in Dublin, Ireland, but the family moved to San Francisco shortly after her younger brother, Aidan was born. There, her mother taught at Starfleet Academy while her father worked at Starfleet Medical Headquarters. Her childhood was typical, or so she thought. It wasn’t until she was in high school that she realized that her parents never showed each other affections. Then again, she’d never really been interested in kissing boys or anything of the like. Fiona preferred to spend her time reading, helping her father in the medical labs, or hanging out at the park, laying under a tree and watching the clouds roll by. Unfortunately, her younger brother was a trouble maker and she often found her hobbies interrupted by someone fetching her to get him out of trouble. Her brother was always into sports and went the opposite direction of Fiona when it came to relationships. Where Fiona had none, Aidan had several at once. When he was sixteen, Aidan made a critical error and managed to impregnate not one, but three of his girlfriends. It turned out that a fourth girlfriend had found out that he was playing the field in more than one way and compromised his protection. Fiona, as she’d always done, helped him tell their parents. Fortunately for Aidan they didn’t outright disown him, but unfortunately for him, they enrolled him in an all boys school. They helped support the three pregnant girls, despite Aidan being banned from seeing the girls by the girl’s parents. After the three babies were born, Dylan and Enya took guardianship of them when the girls were forced to give them up, none being ready for parenthood. Fiona suddenly found her spare time eaten up by helping to care for her nephew and two nieces. Though this only lasted for two years before Fiona was finally of age to join Starfleet Medical. Despite her parents living in the city, Fiona moved onto the Academy campus during her school years. She would go home on weekends and help with the kids, but for the most part, she spent all her time studying or running lab experiments. She had many close encounters with classmates, but never knew what was going on. Said classmates quickly lost interest in her and she was left baffled as to what happened and why she’d suddenly lost a friend. She excelled in her courses and eventually found herself in the top 25 students of her class. She would argue that she was 25th from the top grade, but her brother would always remind her that it was still in the top 25 grades. Aidan had also joined Starfleet Academy, but took Engineering, and so graduated four years before Fiona did. She didn’t mind though, she knew her training would be longer, and she was quite alright with that. Upon graduation, Fiona was assigned to the USS Magellan as a Lieutenant Junior Grade Medical Officer. Despite being in Starfleet, both of her parents we displeased with their children being placed on starships. They preferred to be together on Earth and put up quite a fuss about it. Fiona and Aidan both decided to stay in space, finding their parent’s sudden change in attitude toward them quite disturbing. Aidan even managed to convince his CO to allow his three children to join him on board, especially since his fiancé was already there and willing to take care of the kids. Not quite a year later, both Dylan and Enya would be found deceased, both having died from some sort of parasitic infection. It was found Dylan had accidentally become exposed to these parasites and passed them on to Enya just before Fiona graduated from the Academy. Aidan was told he saved his children’s lives by removing them from their grandparent’s care when he did. It was also explained that the sudden shift in their behaviour was due to these parasites. Though devastated at the loss of her parents, Fiona decided to stay on the Magellan. Two years after being assigned to the Magellan, Fiona was transferred to the USS Cormac, promoted to Lieutenant. There she served for four years before accepting the Assistant Chief Medical Officer position on the USS Juniper Hill. Fiona loved being on the Juniper Hill, she got along great with her department head, Constance, a woman two years older, and adored Constance’s children. It was a sad day for her when Constance left the Juniper Hill to relocate to Earth following the death of her wife. However, when the ship came up for refit, she applied to other ships instead of choosing to wait for the Juniper Hill’s refit to be completed. She spent a month on Earth with her brother and his family before finally receiving word that she’d been accepted for the Chief Medical Officer position on the USS Legacy. Fiona is still somewhat close with her brother, but they both lead busy lives. He was stationed back on Earth shortly after the birth of his fifth child. They call and catch up about once a month, which is perfectly fine with Fiona, especially now that she’ll be back in the stars again. |
