Conversations?

Mission: Mission 3 - A Whole New World
Location: Alex's Quarters
Timeline: 2168/08/22 2315

Alex had enjoyed the dinner. She was just settling down on the couch in her quarters, leaning down and lifting up one leg to slide a boot off, when she heard the chime. "Yes?" she called out, moving to stand.

Gary had been thoroughly confused by Alex's behavior at dinner. While he expected that eventually people would give up their past and pair up, Alex even entertaining McNier was more than a shock. The man was completely clueless in matters of the heart. Was Alex trying to make him jealous? Surely she must know that was not a possibility. But why else would she sidle up with him. She couldn't really like him, could she?

He called through the door. "It is the Captain. You have a moment?"

"Of course, captain. Come in," she said as she stood and walked towards the door.

"Thank you, Alex," he replied coolly as he stepped in and let the door close behind him. "How are you doing, Alex? Did you find dinner to your liking?"

"It was great," she replied, smiling softly at him. "I wasn't expecting you."

"Were you expecting someone else?" the Captain asked slyly.

"No, sir," she said, laughing.

"Are you certain?" he asked with a wry glance. "I heard that you might be into our new XO...."

"I'm not expecting anything like that. I just thought it would be nice to work on something productive. Things seem so hopeless recently." She shrugged slightly and leaned back against the arm of her couch, stretching out her legs and crossing them at the calf. "Not that I've written off the possibility. I do like to keep things open and, last time you and I spent some time together, you were rather encouraging. Genetic diversity if we can't get back in a generation, as I recall."

"You have a good memory," Gary told her honestly. "And frankly, your attitude is surprisingly open and accepting of what I believe will become inevitable." Gary sighed. "I am certain that others will not find it to be so pleasant or be as accepting."

He moved to a chair and sat in it. "And that was part of the point of dinner," Gary admitted. "I'm trying to bring a semblance of hope to this unprecedented situation."

"Well..." Alex watched him a moment and then shrugged. "It's also just hard. I'm a little....You know...." She shrugged again.

"A little what?" Gary asked, not entirely certain what Alex was hinting at.

"I don't know." She shrugged.

"You don't know, or you don't want to say?" Gary inquired curiously, as he sat next to Alex, looking deeply into her eyes.

"I'm not sure how to articulate it," she said, looking back and leaning slightly forward.

"Try," Gary answered softly and encouragingly.

"I just..." She sighed. "I'm a little lonely."

Gary moved closer to Alex and wrapped his arm around her. "That is perfectly understandable. As far as we know there are no other humans here and we do not know a way home." After a long pause he hesitantly added, "Yet."

The Captain inched closer to Alex and continued. "It is a lot to handle and we're all going to have to figure out ways to handle it."

Alex leaned into Gary as he wrapped his arms around her. She kissed him slightly but then she sighed a little. "Have you talked about the long-term with anyone else?"

"I have," the Captain confirmed. "But talking about the long term is far from comforting, Alex."

"How would you comfort me, Gary?" she asked, her tone a little lighter.

For an answer, Gary encouraged Alex into his arms. He gazed into her eyes and then kissed her softly and deeply.

Alex kissed him back, placing her hands on his shoulders as she moved her body into his. For the moment, she was able to forget her worries. In the moment, this was all that there was.

Any thoughts of KAT were pushed to the side. KAT told him that they had to maintain normality and this definitely would be normal. It also was enjoyable. It satisfied a need, a primal hunger that needed to be satiated. And, Alex needed comforting, so who was he, as the Captain, not to give it to her?

Bringing Alex in more closely, he was able to feel her shape as it molded into his. His free hands expertly found the bottom of Alex's top and started to remove it from her, causing the kiss to break while he pulled it above her head.

She grinned up at him as he exposed her belly, her bra, much of her bosom. Her hands moved to his uniform jacket. She started to open it. Her hands drifting over his chest.

Gary gave Alex a cocky grin as she opened his jacket. "My dear Alex, I do believe that you're enjoying yourself." His hands and eyes wandered to her ample bosom, caressing it. Definitely a prize. I wonder if McNeir would even have a clue what to do with these.

"I'm starting to," she said as he put his hands on her ample chest. She arched her back, just letting him fondle her for a moment. She let out a low purr of pleasure.

Not wasting time on the cue, he responded, "Well, let's make certain that you continue to." He kissed Alex deeply and passionately, all the while helping her wriggle out of the rest of her clothes.

She certainly did.

[FADE TO BLACK]

Afterwards, she lay in his arms, soft and warm and languid. She smiled softly. "Do you feel better?" she asked, as if she hadn't been the one seeking comfort.

Gary was physically satiated but he could not help but think about KAT. Of course, she had been right. Right now, things had to remain as the crew expected. And, truly, if they were the only humans here, monagamy might not be an option regardless. "Hmm?" He asked. "Me? I am more concerned about you. How are you feeling?"

She looked in his eyes and he didn't quite seem to see her. It was like he was thinking about something else, someone else. It hurt more than she expected it to, even though he tried to move on from it. Non-monogamy was maybe not as easy as she'd thought. "I don't know," she said, looking away.

Bringing in Alex tighter towards him, Gary whispered warmly, "I'm here for you."

"I know and this is nice," she said and she kissed him again.

Gary held Alex close and sighed contentedly while silently wondering when the appropriate time to leave would be.
