Mission:
Mission 0 - Pre-Sigma Iotia II
Location: Captain's Quarters
Timeline: 2167/07/04 0630
Gary was more than a little pleased that his long time Yeoman, KAT was returning to his ship. They had a decent history together and she came with fringe benefits that many yeomans did not. She never seemed to begrudge him other lovers. He never inquired if she had any others but he suspected not. She was burdened with something from the Saratoga.
As KAT knew about his philandering but kept matters discreet for him, he never inquired into her pain unless she desired to tell the stories. However, he knew that she desired this deep space mission as much as he did. It was time for five years away from their own painful memories.
The two shared a loyalty, at least from Gary's perspective, that was well beyond Captain and Yeoman. And, Gary felt, that she was the only person that he could almost completely trust. Soon, she would walk in, let him know his daily schedule and then they would do their dance. Who knew what this day would bring?
Without much sleep and armed with her schedule, Karina Tell, aka KAT, marched down the hallway as though with military and specific purpose. It was almost as though her pace caused a clipped and regular cadence with her feet as she made her way down the corridor towards the Captain's Quarters. A path she hadn't taken in a while, but one that was familiar. It almost felt as though she had come home.
As she arrived at the door, a wisp of a smile touched her lips and disappeared just as quickly as she pressed the chime in her telltale rhythm.
Playing into an old game, Gary called out, "Is it that time already, KAT? Well, if it is, then you may as well come in...." The naked Captain lay in his bed, under some sheets, waiting for the inevitable.
KAT gave a curt nod as if the Captain could see her through the door and entered with the same rapid pace. Although time had passed, some things seemed as though they'd dodged that bullet somehow. This exchange was one of them.
"Good morning, Captain," she said easily, a smile on her face that belied nothing other than a woman doing her duty; one she did every morning. And then the door slid shut.
"Good morning, KAT," Gary replied professionally as the door slid shut. Now, he could be himself, without pretense. "What do you have for me this morning, my dear?" He patted the bed, hinting strongly that she should come and sit there.
KAT stopped for a moment and simply looked at the Captain. As though she were weighing something in her head. And then nodding curtly, she gently sat down where he'd patted, the PADD moving to her lap as she slid the stylus over its surface.
"I haven't received any requests for being added to your schedule quite yet, Captain, but I'm only just returning to my post. Besides, I'm sure if there are any regularly scheduled, "she paused for a breath before continuing, "meetings," she smiled as she continued, "You would have made those amendments yourself."
Her face remained serene as she turned to him, holding out the pad. "Have you received any such requests directly that haven't yet been entered into your schedule?" No jealousy. No concern, other than for having an accurate idea of which blocks of time were available and which were not.
"No regular meetings have been needed thus far," he told KAT. "Though, you know you're always welcome to block out some time for yourself," he encouraged her with a smile. "After all, I would not know where I would be without you."
Kat's cheeks flushed with the compliment and her left hand squeezed reflexively as she looked down at the schedule. "Well, it's still early yet, Captain," she said into the PADD. "And as for my time, well, our early morning meetings are a standing order."
She stood quickly, heading for the door before the chime even sounded. "I'll take that," she nodded, tugging the breakfast tray out of the ensign's hands. "Thank you for your punctuality; I'll make note of it, Josh." No, she hadn't met him. But memorizing the manifest was something that she did. Somehow, it was disarming for the Yeoman to know everyone aboard by name. Even without a formal meeting.
Turning back to the Captain, she shrugged, carrying a tray with two large steaming mugs, and two plates with breakfast. "Another standing order." She smiled, walking back to the bed, sliding the tray onto the table beside it.
"And what have you got planned that hasn't yet made it to the schedule, Captain?"
"I would not mind our early morning meetings starting in the late evening, KAT," he told her grinning as she handled everything so efficiently. "You have everything arranged so neatly. Why not that?" he asked avoiding the question regarding other lovers.
Raising both eyebrows pointedly, her eyes were laughing before her mouth curled up into another smile. "That might inadvertently disrupt an otherwise productive meeting with another crewmember, Captain." Dinners rarely remained simple dinners with him. And raising the possibility of a relationship between them whether implied or actual, might put off some of his potential interests from even entertaining the possibility.
"Mornings seem the safest time thus far." That was her time. And she didn't want him to feel like he had to cut anyone else's time short in order to spend that time with her... tempting though it might be. But that wasn't her way.
Gary reached over to Karina and brought her face over, kissing her sweetly. "You are just perfect, KAT," he told her pulling away. "Anything I should know about before we breakfast?"
Kat rolled her eyes, cheeks flushing as her eyes glinted with a deep green shimmer. The moment was a brief one as she looked down at her PADD, stylus moving quickly as she checked his incoming requests.
"It looks like a regular morning so far, Captain," she said. "Anything [b]I[\b] should know about?"
If anyone knew anything about Gary it was that he arranged a lot of his own time and she could see a few places where blocks of that time were on the schedule. If they were personal? Well then, he certainly didn't need a Yeoman, unless that was what his partner was into...
Instead of pursuing that thought down the proverbial rabbit hole, she looked back up and had her hand raised, stylus at the ready for any notes she might need to take.
"We're leaving in 48 hours, KAT!" he told her happily. "5 year deep space mission. They have found some old style radio signals coming from Sigma Iota. So, we are to explore and make first contact with them. Isn't that exciting?"
Deep space. A relief. A relaxing, distant place, away from... closing her eyes, she took a deep, cleansing breath. "Very exciting, Captain," she said, face smoother somehow as though some of the stress that had been almost invisible slowly seeped from her features.
Radio waves? The possibility of something amazing... how very, very... "I look forward to it, and I'm sure so does the rest of the crew."
"Five years... it sounds like a long time, but it'll be over before we know it," Kat said with a light chuckle under her breath. "So much possibility, so many things to discover." Her eyes sparkled gently and she smiled widely and without self-consciousness.
The preparations would be part of the flow through her to the Captain... while some things would still bypass her at times. "It's an experience of a lifetime, and I wouldn't trade it for the world!" Was that very professional, sounding like an awestruck kid heading out into the unknown?
Before she became too concerned, she moved to stand up to get the tray. But first, she turned quickly to smile at the Captain and leaned over to give him a kiss on his cheek. "Breakfast?"
Gary swooped KAT into his arms. "All the things that I hoped you would say.... I cannot wait to get out there, KAT. So much to see. And yes, I would like breakfast. I would say that now is as good a time as any, wouldn't you?" His hungry eyes looked deeply into his yeoman's.
"Difficult for me to get the tray, Captain," Kat said with a wry smile and a twinkle in her eye. Knowing full well that the hunger the Captain had was not for food. At least... not right away.
"The tray can wait," he told KAT. "You, however, cannot. You look just the right temperature to me."
The smile curved the edge of her lips as she leaned in, one hand gently cupping his cheek. "And you, Captain?" She chuckled softly, "you're always so... warm...."
"Is that not better than being cold?" he asked, his eyes dancing with delight. He could not resist KAT longer, as he bent in and gave her a sensual kiss.
Kat bent into it slowly, savoring each taste as with a fine and fulfilling meal. "Better... worse... being cold means that warming up would be in order, Captain..." Her full lips lovingly enveloped each syllable as she leaned forward, hungry for more.
Gary did not resist. His lips met her and he enveloped KAT warmly in his arms. "Well," he started between loving kisses, "I suppose that I should cool you off so that I could warm you up." As he uttered his last word, he started undressing his yeoman.
It was not the first time but a new time and she felt almost shy once more. Not like a seasoned lover or even a hungry one, but one that had somehow discovered some vulnerability on her R&R. Someone that had found a chink in her own armor.
Instead of acknowledging it, exploring it, or even delicately stroking it with a concerned digit, she turned to her Captain and smiled slowly, moving to assist in removing her outer clothing, knowing full well that her mask was still in place.
He might have noticed or even said something pointedly about a specific concern, but KAT leaned in, pushing sheets aside and settling her cooling skin against his heat. "Warmth is good," she said softly, goose flesh erupting suddenly, making her shiver and curl in closer.
Gary enveloped KAT and kissed the back of her neck. "It is. Space is a very cold place and we shall need all the warmth we can gather." He turned her around and seemed to be on the cusp of saying something profound but decided against it. "It will be a wonder if anyone gets our reports before we get back."
"Then let's make sure those reports are full of amazing things, shall we?" Whatever hesitation, whatever moment passed without the opportunity being taken, living in the present was the best choice. The kiss had enhanced her goose flesh into a downright full-body shiver and blush. Mundane words discussed offhandedly while skin was pressed against skin. It was intimate, disarming, and oh so very familiar.
"I wonder if anything we do out there will matter." A soft whisper of breath barely made it audible, but the concern was written all over KAT's face. A momentary lapse of internal musings... nothing that a foray into human contact wouldn't offset, at least for a little while.
Cupping his face in her right hand as her left gently squeezed away the shadow of memory within it, she leaned into kiss him, and gave into it, surrendered to its warm embrace, its familiarity, its... dare she think it?... comfort...
"A new voyage to come, but let's get the day started, shall we, Captain?" whispered KAT and slid her hand slowly down Gary's face, fingers teasing sensitive places on their slow meandering way downward. Her fingertips so enjoyed their journey as her mouth gently followed the same path.
"Indeed, KAT. Let's start this day properly." He took Kat's fingertips and sucked on them lovingly, his eyes piercing KAT's. They had played this game before. Neither of them were willing to admit that this was anything but comfort or filling up an empty space but Gary suspected more. Regardless, it could never be so on Earth. His ex and his memories on Earth would ruin it.
Suspending thought and only slightly aware of the time, KAT allowed all of the sensations to overtake her, closing her eyes. This was the place she felt safest, with no thought at all. Too much had happened, far too much. Her heart had been sewn up from the pain of her past. And the Captain? Well, safety was quite excellent in numbers, her grandmother had always said.
And he had a great many numbers. Indeed, as she gently dragged her nails slowly down his back, she knew she was only one amongst the many, and the Captain's tastes ran into near insatiability and with many aboard. Here she could lose herself in the pleasure and not worry about any pesky loose ends.
A small moan escaped her lips and she leaned her head back, savoring each touch with its delicacy and deliberate attentions...
Gary noticed her neck lean back and he gently sucked it, knowing a mark would be left. He did not make it large so that KAT could easily hide it with some makeup. He then kissed his way along her jawline to her ear. There was no sweeter taste than Karina that Gary knew. Confirming that, he whispered into her ear, "You're delicious."
A soft sound came from deep inside of her chest, a familiar one that women had made for eons. It culminated in a soft sigh, but the resonance connected their flesh and she shuddered. Her eyelids fluttered closed and she gave herself over to the sensations. "Taste me more..." and her hand pushed into his hair, leaning upward to his mouth, fingernails gently dragging across his scalp. Needing to feel more, share more, taste more, she curled herself towards him, mouthing whatever skin she could reach.
"As you wish, my dear." With that, Gary started kissing back down her neck and then pushed her ever so slightly forward so he could kiss and trace his tongue down KAT's spine. "Getting even more tasty with every nibble," Gary told his Yeoman. "I do find that amazing."
"I'm seasoned to perfection," KAT chuckled. "And a very nice addition to your regular breakfast fare, I'm sure, Captain."
"I've always known you were perfectly seasoned," Gary responded. "And I have always preferred eating my dessert first. After all, life is short and who knows if we might perish before it?"
"Has anyone ever told you, Captain, that you talk far too much?" KAT asked, sliding upwards and promptly but firmly sealing those lips with hers. A teasing taste of her tongue sliding against his and she leaned back, a fresh sounding 'smack' issuing forth from their former union.
"Mmmm," she said, licking her lips. "You're right." Leaning forward, feigning a deep kiss, she leaned her face sideways and whispered playfully in his ear, "I DO taste delicious..." and chuckling, nuzzled into his neck, nibbling to tickle his sensitive areas outside of the obvious ones.
"My goodness, so formal here today, KAT.... We don't have to put the show of rank on here. And, if you think I talk too much, well, I'll just have to get a mouthful of something." After allowing KAT to tease the underside of his ears, he playfully tossed her back first on the bed and kissed down her body where his mouth would be most occupied.
Stealing a glance, he watched KAT for her reactions, making sure that she was pleased with his efforts. Gary knew KAT was a special treat and he was going to guarantee that she kept coming back for more.
