693 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Mission 0 - Pre-Sigma Iotia II
Location: Bridge
Timeline: 2167/07/02 1130

Ciara Mei Perlit had been told about her new commanding officer. And here she was going to be his chief science officer. She’d made sure all of her things were where they were supposed to be, and knew she had to go meet him at some point.

Her goodbyes had been short, as there had only been one person really that had come to see her. As she got herself to the ship, she felt the eyes digging into her. She had her own reputation, and she normally shrugged it off, but this was a new place, a new ship, a new crew. How many had heard about her.

Now she had to figure out where her commanding officer actually was, as she only knew that he was on board.

Captain Gary Alexander was waiting on the bridge, casually introducing himself to anyone that came aboard. When he saw Ciara step onto the bridge, he politely excused himself from the person he was talking to and approached her. When he got up to her, he said, "Lieutenant Ciara Perlit, what a pleasure to finally meet you." He picked up her right hand and kissed the back of it. "I believe that is a customary greeting for you, no?"

There was only one other person who greeted her that way, and Ciara smiled, trying to keep her face from flushing. "Oui, Capitaine Alexander. That iz a French greeting. It iz a pleasure to meet you.

Gary caught the smile and knew he was on target with this woman. "The pleasure is mine, Lieutenant Perlit. It is wonderful to meet your acquaintance in person. To what do I owe the pleasure of your company right now, m'lady?" That might have been overdoing it, a bit, Gary. Your rank will carry enough charm without all of the schmaltz.

Ciara chuckled, "I do believe it iz polite to check in with ze Capitaine when coming aboard a ship, is it not? Especially in a chief position?"

"Of course it is. Silly me for forgetting protocol." He led the Chief further onto the bridge. "Well, now that you have reported in, Lieutenant, how may I be of service to you?"

"Je ne comprends pas," Ciara stopped herself speaking French. "I'm sorry, Capitaine, I mean I do not understand. Am I not to be the one who should be asking you this question?"

"I would not concern yourself with asking such questions. I'm well aware of your record. I hand selected you from numerous applicants. Therefore, I would suggest it is you that may have questions from me," he told Ciara with a sly grin.

Knowing that look, Ci gave a sly right back. "And I appreciate you choosing me for zis mission out of everyone else. Given my...reputation...I did not think I would ever be a chief. But," she said quietly, "What questions do you think I should be asking?"

"And what reputation would that be?" Gary asked innocently. "As to questions that you should be asking...." Gary put a finger to his chin and firmed his upper lip in mock thought.

"You have not heard of what happened at ze Academy, Capitaine? It iz in my record and I thought well known. However," she stated as she looked around the bridge, "Not something I would want to discuss around all of these people."

"Perhaps you would prefer to discuss it over a quiet dinner, then?" he told her with a smirk.

Raising an eyebrow, Ci couldn't help but give a small chuckle, but again returned the smirk. "A quiet dinner my first night on board with ze Capitaine? I suppose I can handle zat."

"Wonderful," Gary responded, getting hungry for something more than lunch. "My quarters at 1800, then?"

"1800, I will be there. Would you prefer professional dress or off-duty dress?"

"This is not a command, Ciara. If you wish to be my guest, then please dress comfortably."

With a polite nod, Ciara smiled. "I will see you at 1800 then, Capitaine."

Taking Ciara's hand again, he kissed the back of it and confirmed, "1800" before heading back to his chair.
