Welcome to the USS Horizon!

What do you get when you cross Firefly with Star Trek? You get the USS Horizon! Horizon is the ship that was briefly mentioned as lost in "A Piece of the Action," in the Original Series of Star Trek. Horizon was lost in 2168 shortly after departing Sigma Iotia II but not destroyed as Kirk assumed. Horizon was transported to another galaxy (far, far away - OK, there's no Star Wars in this game).

Horizon starts in a time when the United Federation of Planets is very new, just after the Earth-Romulan War. This is a time of optimism and exploration. However, when it is lost, Horizon is damaged and looking for resources and allies. The Captain, Gary Alexander, has privately given up on any chance of returning home but for the sake of the morale of the crew, continues to assert that they are searching for a way back.

We are currently seeking:

* Chief Medical Officer
* Chief Navigation Officer
* All Assistant Chief Positions

Effective 1 July 2019, the USS Horizon is rated 2-2-2, based on the scale provided by RPGRating.com.

General News - Status Update - November, 2019 Edition

The following is a news item from Captain Gary Alexander.

Normally, I send these out on the first of the month (give or take a few days) to give an overview of everything that happened in the month before and of what our goals are for the upcoming month.

Crew

We neither gained nor lost any players this month.

Website

Our wonderful XO has created a Wiki for us while I just try to become competent at Nova! I'm sure there is always more to come on these things. If you have any thoughts or want to assist, let us know!

Sim

In October, we only had 4 posts, again but we have several mass posts in progress, so I am not yet concerned. I would encourage everyone to have posts with other characters relating to their plight after the Chief's meeting.

Mission Recap

Horizon is now officially lost in the Pinwheel Galaxy and is trying to determine how to handle its fate.

Objectives

Determine where we are and make decisions as to how to proceed.

Player of the Month

This month our player of the month is StarGeek who writes for Serenity Hayes! Hayes has made the decision that the Captain makes her uncomfortable and thus transferred out of a Chief position under the XO in Engineering. We look forward to seeing out this awkward situation develops for the Captain, XO and Serenity.

Ideas

If anyone has any ideas for character development or even some subplots, share them with us. I know that my door is always open. Any questions, comments, or issues, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

That’s it for this month’s Status Update!

In September, we only had 4 posts, compared to 8 last month but we have several mass posts in progress, so I am not yet concerned. I am certain once we know where we are and have a Chiefs meeting, there will be lots of discussion in front of the Captain and behind the Captain's back.

Mission Recap

Horizon has just been gripped by an anomaly and is about to get lost in the Pinwheel Galaxy.

Objectives

Determine where we are and make decisions as to how to proceed.

Player of the Month

This month our player of the month is Kris who writes for Ciara Perlit! She has been extremely active and we're glad to have her!

August was a very good month. We had eight posts and we're well on our way to getting lost. Finally, I feel like we have the right crew put together. The sim officially is one year old in four days but this is the most consistent it has been since opening.

Mission Recap

Horizon is about to get lost after having shuttled up from Sigma Iota II. The infamous book has been left behind by our XO.

Objectives

Get lost.

Player of the Month

This month our player of the month is Rose, who writes for Kat and Talia. So far, we have not seen anything from Talia but KAT has been everywhere. The Captain's right hand woman, has made her presence felt and added so much to the sim. Congratulations, Rose!

General News - Status Update - August, 2019 Edition

The following is a news item from Captain Gary Alexander.

Normally, I send these out on the first of the month (give or take a few days) to give an overview of everything that happened in the month before and of what our goals are for the upcoming month.

Crew

In the past months we gained three players:

Lieutenant Commander Nicholas Kincaid, XO
Lieutenant JG Alexandra Campa, Chief Helm Officer
Lieutenant JG Jennifer Bullock, Chief Armory Officer

Website

Hopefully I will have our XO create a Wiki for us while I just try to become competent at Nova. If you have any thoughts or want to assist, let us know!

Sim

July was a transitory month. We had three posts as our new crew settles in! However, we can be better. I would like to get a Chief Medical Officer before I officially get us lost. Once we leave our galaxy, we can't get replacements, so we need some solid writers. If anyone has ideas, please let me know.

In the meantime, I will probably advance the plot a year to the point where we are about to get lost after Horizon's visit to Sigma Iota II.

Mission Recap

Horizon is getting ready to explore. It is still in drydock.

Objectives

Launch on its five year mission.

Player of the Month

With three posts, I cannot in good conscience nominate a player of the month this month.

Ideas

If anyone has any ideas for character development or even some subplots, share them with us. I know that my door is always open. Any questions, comments, or issues, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

General News - Status Update - July, 2019 Edition

The following is a news item from Captain Gary Alexander.

Normally, I send these out on the first of the month (give or take a few days) to give an overview of everything that happened in the month before and of what our goals are for the upcoming month. However, in May, we left Bravo Fleet and June seems to have been a rough month as I was out of town at least half of the month. I will address some of that further down.

Crew

In the past two months we lost three players:

Lieutenant Commander Nicholas Kincaid, XO
Commander Konya Misoka, XO/Chief Armory Officer
Lieutenant Commander Fiona Murphy, Chief Medical Officer

In the past two months we gained one player:

Karina Tell, Yeoman

Website

Hopefully I will have a new XO create a Wiki for us while I just try to become competent at Nova. If you have any thoughts or want to assist, let us know!

Sim

June was a rough month. We only had two posts! We need to get better. I mostly blame myself for being out of town and not staying up on things but let's get things moving again. Of course, with only 4 active players, we really need a new recruiting blitz so we can get some consistency. Once we leave our galaxy, we can't get replacements, so we need some solid writers. If anyone has ideas, please let me know.

Mission Recap

Horizon is getting ready to explore. It is still in drydock.

Objectives

Launch on its five year mission.

Player of the Month

With two posts, neither involving active characters, I cannot in good conscience nominate a player of the month this month.

Ideas

If anyone has any ideas for character development or even some subplots, share them with us. I know that my door is always open. Any questions, comments, or issues, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Mission: Mission 2 - Encounters of a First Kind

Meanwhile... back on the ship...

Talia looked heard an odd sound. It wasn't a ping, or a buzz, or even a radar swoop. It had the metallic pitch to it as though something hit the hull and then stopped.

Had it been feedback in her earpiece? She removed it and…

The planet was not much to look at. There was a light snow covering much of the better shuttle landing areas. Buildings stood in one area of the planet. They were all standing but many appeared to be on the verge of breaking.

Alex steered the shuttle towards a landing…

Gary sat on the bridge. He could see from the monitors that the shuttle had landed. Thankfully, nothing seemed to be amiss at the moment. But something seemed wrong. Why would any species abandon a colony? That made no sense.

He turned to Flowers and asked, "Any luck on that…

No ships seemed to be in the area. The signal continued and Talia continued to try and work at breaking the code. The red dwarf star was unremarkable, though Gary was animated and excited as they discovered this system. Surrounding it were, as predicted by science, three planets. The first…

To say the crew was distraught was an understatement. In between his work in engineering and his watch…
